Akili Barnes, the founder of The Best Me I Can Be, is a dedicated advocate for youth. As a former Division I track athlete at the University of Toledo and a Master's degree holder in Education from Northern Kentucky University, she combines her education and mentorship expertise with strong community leadership. Recognized as a "Next 9" educator by WCPO Channel 9, she is celebrated for her efforts in inspiring and transforming lives.
Barnes is deeply committed to youth advocacy, striving to create opportunities that empower young people to overcome challenges and reach their full potential. During her time as a classroom teacher, she observed the barriers that justice-involved and at-risk youth encounter. With a determination to provide comprehensive support beyond traditional education, she established The Best Me I Can Be, which focuses on mentorship, education, life skills, and family support.
Her vision is that every young person has access to the education, mentorship, and life opportunities needed to thrive in school, work, and life.
